A Calm & Comfortable Newborn Experience

Bringing your baby to a photo session can feel overwhelming, especially when you're still adjusting to life with a newborn. My goal is to make the experience simple, comfortable, and stress-free from beginning to end. Newborn sessions include plenty of time for feeding, soothing, changing, and snuggling. There is never a need to rush. We follow your baby's cues and create a calm environment.

Whether you prefer sweet, simple portraits or a more styled session, every image is created with your baby’s safety in mind. You don’t need to worry about bringing anything, everything is provided. If you have personal items that are meaningful, I am happy to include them. You’ll share all of this and your preferences for the session on the pre-session consultation form.

When Should You Schedule Your Newborn Session?

The best time for newborn portraits is typically within the first 5–14 days after birth when babies are usually extra sleepy and naturally curl into those sweet newborn poses. However, every baby is different, and beautiful newborn portraits can still be captured beyond this timeframe. I welcome babies of all ages, the approach just changes.

The best time to reserve your session is during pregnancy, ideally in your second or third trimester. I recommend booking before your baby arrives so we can plan your session around your expected due date. You’ll fill out a consultation form and share all of your inspiration and preferences for the session.

We welcome last minute sessions too!

What Happens During a Newborn Session?

Your newborn session is thoughtfully planned to give your family a relaxed and enjoyable experience. I will have everything prepared, based on your preferences, when you arrive.

Depending on the package you select, a typical session can include:

  • Family portraits with parents and siblings

  • Beautiful individual portraits of your baby

  • Gentle posing and natural newborn moments

  • wrapped poses

  • Time for feeding, soothing, and breaks as needed

  • A variety of images that tell your family's story

You don't need to worry about knowing how to pose or what to do. I'll guide you through the process while keeping the focus on your connection with your baby.

Newborn sessions take place at Lakeside Studios, a comfortable, clean studio designed to create beautiful, timeless images. Or in your home if you choose an in-home lifestyle session.

Newborn Frequently asked Questions

  • Unless you have a special outfit, you don’t need to bring anything for your baby. I also have many dresses that work well for new mothers. I suggest soft colors, texture over pattern and a blended color palette, not overly matching. Avoid, tight clothing, loud color or patterns, logos, & words or pictures.

  • Most families book their newborn session during pregnancy. Reserving early ensures availability around your due date. I make room for as many last minute appointments as possible.

  • That is completely normal! Your session date is flexible and will be adjusted once your baby arrives.

  • Yes. Your baby's safety and comfort are always the top priority. Sessions are baby-led, with gentle handling and plenty of breaks. I have 20 year of experience working with newborn babies. I do not do intricate, un-natural poses that can stress your baby.

  • Yes, for studio sessions. I provide wraps, blankets, and styling pieces, like hats and headbands for your baby's portraits. Parents are welcome to bring meaningful items as well.

  • Absolutely. Sibling and family portraits are an important part of documenting this special time. I have many tactics for including siblings, even if they don’t want to or can’t hold the baby.

  • Your newborn session is designed to be easy. Most families bring:

    • Extra diapers and wipes

    • Baby's favorite pacifier (if using one)

    • Any sentimental items you'd like photographed

    • A relaxed mindset—babies are unpredictable, and that's okay

    I provide the wraps, blankets, props, and styling details needed to create beautiful portraits.

  • Absolutely.

    Some of the most meaningful newborn images are the ones showing your new family together. Parents and siblings are encouraged to participate so we can capture the love and connection surrounding this exciting new chapter.
